At Rec'd ("we", "our", or "us"), we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App").

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address (required for authentication)

• Display name (as provided by you)

• Profile photo (optional, if you choose to upload one)

• Account creation date and last active timestamp

1.2 Authentication Data

We use Firebase Authentication for secure sign-in. You can sign in using:

• Sign in with Apple

• Google Sign-In

• Email and password

Authentication is handled by Firebase and subject to their privacy policies. We do not store your passwords directly.

1.3 Contacts Information

With your permission, we access your device contacts to help you find friends who are already using Rec'd. We:

• Only access phone numbers from your contacts (names are used locally on your device only)

• Hash phone numbers using a secure one-way hash function before any processing

• Never store your full contact list or individual phone numbers in plain text

• Only use this information to identify which of your contacts are Rec'd users

• You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings

1.4 User-Generated Content

We collect content you create, including:

• Recommendations you send to connections (media titles, notes, timestamps)

• Your personal watchlist of movies, TV shows, and books

• Watched history and ratings (if you choose to use these features)

• Feedback and reactions to recommendations you receive

• Feedback and bug reports submitted to us (which may include device information for troubleshooting)

1.5 Connection Data

We store information about your connections with other users:

• Connection requests (sent and received)

• Accepted connections (mutual friendships)

• Only you and your connected users can see this information

1.6 Device Information

When you submit feedback or encounter errors, we may collect:

• Device model and iOS version (for troubleshooting)

• App version and build number

• Crash logs (anonymous, for improving app stability)

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and maintain the App's core functionality

• Enable you to send and receive recommendations with your connections

• Help you discover friends who are already using Rec'd (with your permission)

• Store and sync your watchlist and preferences across devices

• Respond to your feedback and support requests

• Improve the App and fix bugs

• Ensure security and prevent fraud

• Comply with legal obligations

3. DATA STORAGE AND SECURITY

3.1 Storage Provider

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, which provides:

• Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)

• Encryption at rest

• Enterprise-grade security infrastructure

• Regular security audits and compliance certifications

3.2 Privacy by Design

Rec'd is designed with privacy as a core principle:

• Private by Default: Your recommendations and content are only visible to you and your accepted connections

• No Public Discovery: We do not have public user profiles, feeds, or recommendation lists

• Mutual Consent: All connections require both parties to accept before any sharing occurs

• Data Minimization: We only collect and store data necessary for the App to function

3.3 Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

• Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, and storage services. See Firebase Privacy

• TMDB (The Movie Database): Movie and TV show information and metadata. We only send search queries and receive content information; TMDB does not receive personal user data

• Google Books API: Book information and metadata. We only send search queries and receive content information; Google Books does not receive personal user data

• Apple: Sign in with Apple authentication (if used). See Apple Privacy

4. DATA SHARING

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share your information:

• With Your Connections: When you send a recommendation, the recipient sees your display name and the recommendation content

• Service Providers: With trusted third parties who help us operate the App (Firebase, Apple, Google) under strict confidentiality agreements

• Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or government request

• Safety: To protect the rights, property, or safety of Rec'd, our users, or others

5. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access: You can view your account information, recommendations, and watchlist within the App

• Deletion: You can delete your account at any time through the App settings, which will permanently delete your personal information, recommendations, and connections

• Revoke Permissions: You can revoke contacts access at any time through your device settings

• Control Sharing: You control who you connect with and what recommendations you send

• Export Data: Contact us if you would like to export your data

6. DATA RETENTION

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. When you delete your account:

• Your account information is permanently deleted

• Your recommendations are removed from recipients' feeds (they may retain copies locally)

• Your connections are dissolved

• Your watchlist and preferences are deleted

We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as preventing fraud or resolving disputes).

7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Rec'd is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

8. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries, including the United States where Firebase servers are located.

9. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page

• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy

• Notifying you through the App or by email for material changes

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
